TGN – Overwatch closed beta going on ‘extended break’ Dec. 10
Blizzard Entertainment’s closed beta for Overwatch is taking a break during the holidays. The developer announced today that the hero-based shooter’s beta, which launched in October, is going offline Dec. 10 while Blizzard works on new game features.
“This phase of development has been key, but now it’s time to analyze the data we have, dig into your feedback even further, and put that knowledge to use as best we can,” Blizzard said in a blog post, specifying that the game’s closed beta will go offline Dec. 10 at 9 a.m. PT. “During this downtime, we’re looking forward to making more improvements to the game, as well as continuing to work on in-development features like spectating and progression.”
Overwatch‘s beta will return, Blizzard said, sometime in January.
At BlizzCon last month, game director Jeff Kaplan said Blizzard would monitorOverwatch‘s closed beta to determine how well-balanced the game is with its roster of 21 heroes, and whether there’s room for more. “I think that’s gonna answer ‘How many heroes can we have? Is there room for a lot more? A little more? How’s the game feel? Does it feel solid and balanced?” Kaplan said.
Overwatch is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One spring 2016.
